Death of a Season

For any hardcore Red Sox fan (and NO, the Pink Hats don't count) this years hometown team has been more than just a bust. It is a team that is set up to fail for number of years. We have all endured losing seasons in our life and we still root on our favorite players and look for a glimpse of hope for next year in some players. We still enjoy going to the game and having some Hot Dogs and Beers and enjoying the nice weather. But this season is different........

Theo Epstein has ruined this franchise.. He has crippled this team possibly beyond repair. His pathetic moves he made on the way out the door may send this team back into the dark ages for the next decade. We are strapped with Carl Crawford of the next 5 years (it may be 6 but I am venting and don't want to stop to look it up).. John Lackey... JOHN FREAKIN LACKEY is stuck here for a couple more. A-Gon has us on the hook for another 6.....

Do people realize that these three people alone make more money than some entire MLB teams??? I am not done yet.....

Beckett and Lester make about 22 million per year combined and the Sox are 13-24 in games that they started this year... and they act like they couldn't care less about it... They are getting paid....

Now the BAD part...... The ownership of this team is compounding the problem even more. They have a clown for a GM. He has about as much authority as I do in the decision making on this team. These pompous owners have their $100 million dollar boats and private jets and have used the blind passion of Red Sox nation to grow their empire at the expense of all of us..

They have no problem dropping 445 million on an English Soccer Team. or the countless millions building their NASCAR program... but refuse to hire real BASEBALL people to run the Sox.
Bobby V was hired because they couldn't get anyone else to take the job. No real baseball person wants to work under these conditions. To Bobby V's credit he basically neutered himself to get a paycheck. He will go through the motions and collect his check. I think that an unshackled Bobby is just what this team needs but John Henry isn't going to share the spotlight with some lowly employee who wears a uniform...

Fenway Park is a JOKE. This "America's most beloved Ballpark" is a slap in the face to anyone that has ever been to another stadium. The place needs to be destroyed and short of an earthquake or terrorist attack it never will....

But there is hope and I have the answer......

1. Stop going to the games. Let the stadium be empty the months of August and September.. I know... I know... the tickets are already sold and they will have the stupid 9 million game sell-out streak still being advertised.. But don't think they will not notice the empty seats in the stands.....

2. Stop watching the games on TV. This has already started.. Viewership is down almost 30% this year which is a good start. Grab that remote and put on something else... TV is the bloodline that feeds this monster.

3. This next step goes way beyond the Chicken and Beergate of last year..... Cut loose Beckett, Lester, Papi, Pedroia, A-Gon, Crawford, Lackey..... I know what you are saying... "Who the hell wants these guys?'... and you are right.... you might have to throw in a Ellsbury AND Lackey for a bag of balls just to get someone to take him... or maybe Middlebrooks and Crawford for a case of peanuts and sunflower seeds... I don't know... Just do what you have to to rid this team of the cancers..... If you can't find a sucker to take them then just CUT them and pay the bill.... You ordered that $500 dollar bottle of wine... now drink it......

4. Fill next years roster with rookies and low cost players.....Cut more than $100 million from your payroll and for once.. be honest with the people... Tell them that for the long term health of this organization we need to "strip it down" and start over....

5. Announce that you have plans to build a "state of the art" retractable roofed stadium on the waterfront and then begin the long slow 3 year goodbye to Fenway.... They already know how to do that... remember the year long 100th anniversary fiasco???

I do not believe that any of this will happen... This ownership is not going to "take it on the chin" for a few years while this rebuilding goes on.... But maybe if we don't watch and stay away they will see that we are serious and they may sell the team to someone who does....  These people don't care about Boston or the fans. They are money making machines and once they stop seeing the return on investment they will sell out and maybe buy the Moon or some other entity....

We either take a stand now or we could easily slip into the abyss for another 86 years.....
